The Monroe County Sheriff's Office is seeking to fill a Human Resources Specialist position. This position provides a variety of administrative support services in the Human Resources Division. This role is a balance of completing independent job responsibilities and working as part of a team to complete project-based tasks to meet the needs of the department. QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED:
High school diploma or its equivalent with considerable clerical work experience, preferably related to Human Resources. Experience using a computer is necessary, and some office experience to have acquired skill and understanding of record keeping and data entry. Considerable knowledge of database query and/or Microsoft Office applications is required. Automated HR/Payroll systems is preferred. Experience includes the operation of data entry devices, keyboards, duplicating machines, switchboard, etc.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
Should have at least 1-3 years of HR experience.
Knowledge of business English, spelling, and grammar.
Knowledge of office etiquette.
Knowledge of basic employment laws.
Experience working in Microsoft Office (Word and Excel required).
Working knowledge and understanding of policies including the General Orders.
Knowledge of arithmetic calculations.
Ability to produce accurate and professional routine reports.
Ability to understand oral and written instructions.
Ability to meet strict deadlines with a high degree of accuracy.
Ability to use standard office equipment.
Ability to type at a moderate speed.
Ability to be multifunctional at all times
Must be very detail oriented and organized.
Ability to perform basic arithmetic calculations and post numerical data.
Ability to administer and monitor selection test instruments.
Ability to determine character and eligibility of applicants for hire.
Ability to speak in public.
Ability to exercise diplomacy and judgment.
Ability to establish effective working relationships with applicants, co-workers, outside agencies and the general public.
Ability to recognize errors or inaccuracies in information and make corrections or coordinate corrective actions.
PHYSICAL EFFORT:
Position does not involve physical effort beyond that encountered in normal everyday activities.

WORK ENVIRONMENT:
Work is performed in a typical office setting. Attends Job Fairs, Recruitment Seminars, and participates in public speaking engagements.
