Staff Attorney - United States Attorney's Office, HIDTA Task Force

Location:          Doral, Florida

Pay Grade:        GS 10 step 9 to GS 12 step 10 ($84,899 - $114,741)

QUALIFICATIONS:

Applicant must possess a desire to work in a collaborative, dynamic, and innovative prosecution office targeting the highest-level offenders. The Applicant must be a member of the Florida Bar with a minimum of 2 years legal experience and possess demonstrated superior writing abilities.

DUTIES:

The Staff Attorney assists Assistant United States Attorneys (AUSAs) assigned to the South Florida High Intensity Drug Trafficking Area (HIDTA) Task Force with case preparation by performing varied and complex legal research and drafting pleadings, motions, memoranda, and other legal documents to be files by the AUSAs.

The Staff Attorney may also assist AUSAs during trial and other in court presentations and work with case agents in preparing complaints, affidavits, search warrants and wiretaps.  Completed work must be accurate with respect to legal citations, substantive facts, and legal authority.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

  • Ability to communicate effectively in writing and orally. (Note: this is a writing intensive position)
  • Ability to conduct accurate legal research,
  • Abiliy to apply and interpret laws, rules, and regulations,
  • Ability to draft legal documents and correspondence,
  • Familiarity with the Federal Rules of Procedure, and
  • Proficiency in Westlaw, LexisNexis and Microsoft Office.

Although this position is employed through the Monroe County Sheriff's Office, the place of employment is in Doral, Florida

SUPERVISORY CONTROLS:

This position is not responsible for supervision of any personnel.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

The work does not require any physical exertion. 

WORK ENVIRONMENT:

The work is typically performed in an office setting.
